NEW HAMPSHIRE 1776
New Hampshire has the distinction of being the first state to attempt a local coinage following the Declaration of Independence.  In 1776, William Moulton was authorized to produce an experimental batch of copper pieces.  This coin never attained general circulation, though it probably circulated in a small way.
