CONTINENTAL DOLLAR 1776
The Continental Dollar was believed to be the first attempt at coinage by the Continental Congress, which were struck in Silver, Pewter, & Brass metals. Though the sizes were all the same, No Value was indicated. It is presumed that the Silver coins were dollars & the base metal coins were divisions of the Dollar Value.
Elisha Gallaudet made the dies, which were struck in Philadelphia, Pa. The design & Legend “We are One & Mind Your Business” was directed towards the British in the “Spirit of Benjamin Franklin”.
